Getting Ready for TUNE UP 2015!

We are excited about the 2015 TUNE UP worship band gathering happening this Saturday, August 8. You’re receiving this email because you have been registered as a participant for the event. Here are a few details as you prepare for the event…

Location: TUNE UP is being held at Westbury United Methodist Church (5200 Willowbend Blvd, Houston, TX 77096). There are two main entrances into the parking lot, which is located behind the church. Access to the parking lot is off West Bellfort and on Cedarhurst. Once you arrive, look for the sign that says “Main Entrance.”

What to bring: If you’re a guitarist, feel free to bring your acoustic, electric, or bass guitar (no amplifiers, please). This is optional though; don’t feel like you have to bring your instrument. You might also like to bring a Bible and something to take notes with.

Schedule: You can view the schedule for Saturdayhere. Check-in and registration begins at 9:00 AM, gathering music starts at 9:15 AM, and the event will start at 9:30 AM. The event will conclude by3:30 PM. A new feature this year is an optional post event. From 4:30 – 6:30 PM we will tour the campus of Houston’s First Baptist Church (7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024) to learn about their use of audio, video, and lighting in worship.

Tracks: When your group registered, you were signed up for an instrumental or vocal track. Please plan to attend the track you were registered for during the “instrumental track” option. After that, you are free to pick from the available options for the “conceptual track.” If you decide you’d like to switch instrumental tracks – no problem. You can view the track options here.

Instant Band: During the Instant Band session we will put together a band of volunteers and work out an arrangement of “When Peace like a River” (It Is Well with My Soul). The session will demonstrate the use of different voices (lead and harmony), varied instrumental textures, and making style/groove decisions. Our plan is to show how to quickly bring together musicians who have never played/sang together and prepare a song.

Food: Lunch is provided for this event. We’re sorry, but we don’t have a vegetarian or gluten free option. There will also be coffee and breakfast items available in the morning.
